Highly recommended!

The first refugee health forum will be taking place on March 14th for any students interested in refugee health issues or wishing to participate in future Healthy Start sessions throughout the year (or thinking about running for Refugge Health Convenor with TIME)! In fact, this forum is essential for those interested in Healthy Start, an initiative where students from UQ, Griffith and Bond provide basic health education for refugees (an incredibly rewarding experience). Anyone can attend this session (you don't have to be a member of TIME or even a student at UQ) and there will be further workshops throughout the year if you can't make this one - but do aim for this one so you can attend the earlier HS sessions - there are only limited sessions throughout the year and very limited spots in each one!

The Forum will cover:

  • Understanding the refugee experience
  • Working with interpreters
  • Identifying disparate health beliefs and delivering cross-cultural care
  • Health literacy and empowering communities

With presentations from:

  • Hope4Health
  • Multicultural Development Association (settlement agency)
  • QPASTT (torture and trauma counselling service)
  • Health leaders from local refugee communities
  • Dr Margaret Kay, MBBS (Hons), PhD, FRACGP, Dip. RACOG, Senior Lecturer, Discipline of General Practice, The University of Queensland

RSVP ASAP to… - the event is catered and free, but there is a limit of 100 students for this event! For any and all enquiries, send an email to Ariel Ho at
